Empowering Young Innovators Through Hands-On STEM Learning
ACIC-CBIT Research & Entrepreneurship Foundation successfully conducted a two-day Drone Technology Workshop for students of Pallavi International School, Gandipet. The workshop was designed to provide students with practical exposure to drone technology through a combination of classroom learning, hands-on assembly, calibration, and flight demonstrations.
The initiative aimed to nurture curiosity, innovation, and STEM learning among young minds while introducing them to emerging technologies and their real-world applications — inspiring future technology leaders from the schoolroom to the skies.
The programme began with an inaugural ceremony attended by school leadership and ACIC-CBIT representatives. Students were introduced to the fundamentals of drone technology — including architecture, components, flight controllers, and operational principles — before diving into hands-on activities.
The first day opened with an inaugural ceremony attended by Pallavi International School leadership and the ACIC-CBIT team. Students were taken through the fundamentals of drone technology — architecture, components, and operational principles — before moving to hands-on assembly.
Working directly with drone frames, motors, propellers, ESCs, batteries, and flight controllers, participants assembled drone systems themselves and understood how each component contributes to successful flight operations. The session concluded with Mission Planner software training and drone calibration procedures.
Day 2 focused on calibration, troubleshooting, and practical flight training. Students experienced real flight dynamics through dedicated training drones while observing the successful flight of drones assembled during the workshop. Witnessing their own creations take flight was a powerful and memorable learning experience for every participant.
Beyond technical skills, the workshop concluded with discussions on design thinking, innovation, robotics, and future STEM career pathways — encouraging students to think creatively and explore how emerging technologies can be leveraged to solve real-world challenges.
A key feature of the workshop was its experiential learning approach. Rather than learning solely through presentations, participants assembled drone systems themselves and understood how each component contributes to successful flight operations.
This practical engagement enabled students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world engineering applications. Through calibration and testing activities, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of how hardware and software work together in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Enhanced understanding of drone technology and UAV systems
Practical experience in drone assembly, calibration, and flight operations
Exposure to real-world engineering and problem-solving techniques
Increased interest in robotics, innovation, and STEM careers
Development of teamwork, critical thinking, and technical skills
Awareness of future pathways in science, engineering, and entrepreneurship
The Drone Technology Workshop reflects ACIC-CBIT's continued commitment to promoting innovation-led learning among school students. By integrating drone theory, hands-on assembly, calibration, flight training, and design thinking, the programme provided participants with a meaningful introduction to emerging technologies and inspired them to explore future opportunities in science, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
This workshop is part of ACIC-CBIT's broader school outreach mission — taking hands-on innovation experiences directly to institutions across Hyderabad and Telangana, ensuring that every young mind has an opportunity to experience the thrill of building something real.
